MovieRate shows movie ratings when you hover a film title on a cinema or ticketing website. This page describes exactly what it sends, what is recorded, and what is not.
When you hover a movie title on a supported site, the extension sends that title — and a release year if the page shows one — to its ratings service, which looks the film up and returns its scores.
It does not send the page URL, your browsing history, other page content, cookies, or any account or device identifier.
The service runs on Google Cloud Run. Like any web server it produces operational logs, which contain:
These logs exist to keep the service working and to stop abuse: the IP address is used to rate-limit callers so that one client cannot exhaust the service for everyone. Logs are retained for 30 days by Google Cloud's default policy and are then deleted automatically. They are not used to build a profile, are not linked to any identity, and are not combined with anything else.
The service caches ratings data about films — title, scores, runtime, synopsis — so the same film need not be looked up repeatedly. This cache holds information about movies, not about people. No record of who requested what is kept in it.
In your browser, the extension stores your own settings and a copy of recently fetched ratings, using Chrome's storage. That data stays in your browser profile.
No data is sold, rented, or shared with anyone else, and none of it is used for advertising, credit decisions, or any purpose beyond showing you ratings.
The extension is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
If this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it.
